One of the great things about Los Angeles is the burgeoning art culture. While there are many art museums in the area such as LACMA or MOCA, there are also a number of new art spaces that popping up in the Arts District of Los Angeles. Here are some art galleries that you can visit that are located in Downtown near the L.A. Hotel.
Art + Practice exhibition space is a non-profit organization in downtown that offers access to free art exhibitions as well as moderated art lectures to the community. Proceeds go to helping provide services to foster youth in South LA. An exhibit that is currently at Art + Practice is Fred Eversley: Black, White, Gray. Eversley is an LA local from Venice. The exhibit is an exploration of Eversley cast-resin, mirror-like sculptures. Art + Practice is located at 3401 W 43rd Pl in downtown LA. The art gallery is open Monday-Saturday from 12pm-6pm.
Hauser Wirth & Schimmel is an international gallery that is devoted to contemporary art and modern day art masters. The new building also features internal outdoor spaces that is used for outdoor art pieces. Coming in early February is a new exhibit featuring large scale art pieces from Jason Rhoades. The Hauser Wirth & Schimmel has gallery hours Wednesday, Friday – Sunday from 11am-6pm and Thursday, 11am-8pm. Stop by 901 E 3rd Street to visit this new art space in downtown.
The Spring Arts Collective features both new art talent as well as established artists. The Spring Arts Gallery is located in downtown and hosts shows and exhibits throughout the year. All the artists in the collective are there on Saturdays from 1pm-5pm. However, throughout the week, you can see the artwork of various artists in the collective. The Spring Arts Gallery is located on the mezzanine level inside The Last Bookstore in LA. The Last Bookstore is located at 453 S Spring Street.
